After 20 years as a copywriter writing search-optimized copy for software companies and ad agencies, I couldn't resist a pull to work with animals again.
Early in my writing career, I wrote several pet care books with a veterinarian and a dog trainer. My book So Your Dog’s Not Lassie: Tips for Training the Independent Dog and Difficult Breeds written with Bulldog trainer extraordinaire Betty Fisher won the San Diego Book Award in the How-to category. The book has a 4.7 / 5 star rating from 47 Amazon customers and a 3.7 / 4 rating on Goodreads. I often provide some training on my dog walks and pet sits, even with cats!

My love for animals began in my childhood on a farm where I raised dogs, cats, sheep, cows, horses, and chickens. I was a long-time 4-H member and competed with sheep.
Here, you see me (with the bowl cut) showing my beloved Benji, whom I raised on a bottle. Little did I know that the winners got auctioned off for MEAT! You can imagine the tears. My dad felt it was something important for me to learn. Sigh...

A long history with animals...
I hire only pet sitters with a demonstrated love of animals and a willingness to study training, behavior, and pet sitter best practices.
My pet sitters and I bring certified pet care skills to every walk and visit, including CPR, medication administration, emergency evacuation (fires!), and rattlesnake avoidance. We are certified by Pet Sitters International, and have taken pet first aid and CPR training. We also constantly add to our knowledge and skills with training (see recent dog rattlesnake training blog post), webinars, courses, and books. I hire only pet sitters with a demonstrated love of animals and a willingness to study training, behavior, and pet sitter best practices.
I started my transition by becoming an event manager with Amazing Dogs Rescue. Every other Saturday, I love helping hopeful pet parents meet their ideal fur babies at the San Marcos PetCo. It's meaningful and fun work. Here, you see a pic just after this Shepherd pup planted a big kiss on my face. Every kiss means a lot to me!
